In Mathura, the cruel King Kansa locked up his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudeva because a prophecy said Devaki's eighth child would kill him. Kansa killed their first six children. The seventh child was saved by being moved to Rohini. The dungeon changes when Devaki is about to give birth to the eighth child. She had a divine baby, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Suddenly, the prison doors opened, the chains fell off, and the guards fell asleep. Divine forces helped Vasudeva take the newborn to safety.

Vasudeva carried the baby across the stormy Yamuna River, which parted to make way for him. A serpent named Shesh Naag sheltered the child from the rain and thunder.
