Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problems in children and adolescents. Being the parent of an anxious child means facing constant challenges and questions: When do you help your children avoid anxiety-provoking situations and when do you encourage them to face their fears? How can you foster their independence while still supporting them? What can you do to reduce the hold their anxiety has on your entire family?
Eli R. Lebowitz, PhD, Associate Professor at the Yale Child Study Center, will discuss his groundbreaking book, Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD: A Scientifically Proven Program for Parents, the first and only book to provide a parent-based treatment program for child and adolescent anxiety.
In this webinar, Professor Lebowitz will discuss how you can help alleviate your children’s anxiety by changing the way you respond to their symptoms. For example, instead of trying to change your children’s’ behavior, he will explain how you can replace your own accommodating behaviors with supportive responses that demonstrate both acceptance of your children’s difficulties and confidence in their ability to cope.
