Amanda Lindhout is a Canadian journalist, humanitarian, and bestselling author recognized globally for her work on resilience, mindset, and trauma recovery. At 24, she left her job as a cocktail waitress to report from conflict zones like Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2008, while in Somalia as a freelance journalist, she was kidnapped by insurgents and held hostage for 460 days. After her release in 2009, Amanda transformed her experience into advocacy, and founded an organization to support education and women’s empowerment in Somalia.
