Ousted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro arrives at a detention center in New York after he was taken into custody in a US military operation.

President Donald Trump said the US plans to “run” Venezuela, but the White House offered few details about what that would entail.

Trump signaled he’s focused on Venezuela’s petroleum, saying the US would have a “presence in Venezuela as it pertains to oil”, which could mean a greater role for American oil companies.

The US strategy is to control Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and others around her to get the desired outcomes, with Trump warning of a potential second wave of American attacks if cooperation isn’t forthcoming.
